I have not met one person in my life that did not have some time where they “worried” about some aspect of their life. Worry can be as simple as worrying about the weather for some upcoming outing to financial concerns to family issues, health challenges, or uncertainties about the future. Worry leads to anxiety and can overtake our daily life. Worrying can lead to anxiety, anger, fear, self-doubt and so many other feelings.
We all encounter moments when these feelings threaten to overwhelm us. As Christians, however, we are called to respond to worry differently. The Bible offers us profound guidance on how to navigate life’s uncertainties with faith and trust in God. This is easy to say, but to overcome this deep rooted feeling of worry, whether is has manifested in anger, or fear, is hard to navigate, I know!!! Many times, these manifestation of worry (anger, fear, discouragement, etc.) have become a habit that takes divine intervention to overcome.

The Root of Worry
Worry often stems from a lack of control or fear of the unknown. It whispers, “What if things go wrong?” and fuels our doubts. It becomes a cycle that consumes our minds. I remember there was a time in my personal life that EVERY day I would wake up, and my mind would scream at me, “you are a looser!!”.” This lead immediately to fear and feeling of failure and I did not know why I would wake up with this horrible mind controlling thought. BUT, it became a habit of daily torture.
Scripture reminds us that worry doesn’t add value to our lives. In Matthew 6:27, Jesus asks, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” Worry not only fails to solve our problems but can also rob us of the peace God desires for us. I wasted at least an hour each day with this gloomy thought until I could shake it.

God’s Call to Trust
One of the most comforting passages about worry is found in Philippians 4:6-7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This verse was an invitation for me to replace this thought of worry and doubt about myself IMMEDIATELY with prayer. When I replace my thoughts with prayer to overcome this fear, only then could I begin to heal. When I gave my concern to God, I acknowledged His sovereignty and my dependence on Him. Trusting God means believing that He is in control, even when my mind wanted to remain in its cycle of awakening with these thoughts that controlled my mind.
Practical Steps I took to Overcome Worry
- Meditate on God’s Promises: Scripture is filled with reminders of God’s faithfulness. Verses like Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God,” can provide reassurance in moments of doubt. The moment fear, anger, doubt enters your mind, IMMEDIATELY replace it with a bible verse. Stay strong in your mind as this might take several weeks to replace your strong feeling of (ever you are feeling) with peace.
- Surrender Your Burdens: Jesus invites us to cast our cares on Him. In Matthew 11:28, He says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Letting go of worry requires a conscious decision to trust God with what we cannot control. I know first hand the downward path of what anger, fear, etc. can do to us.
- Cultivate Gratitude: Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have. By thanking God for His blessings, we remind ourselves of His goodness and provision. Look at your children God gave you and focus on their little faces and know they depend on you. I look at my art studio and thank God I can create artwork, I can paint even if I have to push myself on some days. I started a gratitude journal and even when I did not want to add things at first as I was in too much pain, I look forward now to add things I am thankful for.
- Seek Support: Sharing your concerns with trusted family members, friends or a church group can provide encouragement and prayer support. As Galatians 6:2 reminds us, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

The Peace That Surpasses Understanding
When we trust God with our anger, fears, and worries, He replaces our anxiety with peace. This peace doesn’t come from our circumstances but from the assurance that God is with us. It allows us to rest in His promises, knowing that He works all things together for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
So, the next time worry creeps in, take a moment to pause, pray, and reflect on God’s faithfulness. Trust that He holds your future in His hands, and let His peace guard your heart and mind. Worry may knock on your door, but you don’t have to let it in. Instead, invite God’s presence to dwell with you, bringing hope and assurance that He is always in control.
